You want to have a baby. Maybe you’re not sure why you want it so much. It’s just the way you feel. The time is right, and you want it.
Everywhere you go, you see babies and cute toddlers. In a shop, on a bus, you’re passing by pregnant ladies on the streets and you start recognizing most common brands of prams.
If you can associate yourself with the previous description, I know exactly how you feel. And I can tell you, it’s not easy not to go crazy! You better get pregnant immediately, or…
Let’s stop here.
How you feel is completely normal. It’s the way how Mother Nature wants to trick us into reproducing. Many women will encounter the stage of life when they want to have a baby. They want it so badly, it’s hard for them to think of anything else.
The good news is:
If you and your partner are healthy, you should get pregnant in no time. More than half of trying couples get pregnant within 3 months of trying.
How can you speed things up?
Rule no. 1: Relax and enjoy everything you won’t be able to enjoy once the baby is here
Because you want to have a baby and you want it NOW, I need to tell you something: Life with a baby isn’t easy. You really shouldn’t want the baby that much.
Things to enjoy before having kids:
- Good night sleep.
Yes, it will be gone once the baby arrives. Or maybe even sooner, as sleeping with 3+ kg little alien kicking your stomach at night is impossible.
- Long mornings in bed.
Forget about lazy mornings. The baby will decide for you when it’s time to get up.
- Doing everything or anything on your own.
If you think of cooking dinner, going shopping or using bathroom, imagine the baby being there with you. Onions and carrots on the hob will have to wait, the baby needs another feed.
- Going for a date, ladies night out, to the cinema, football match…
Wherever you want to go, there are only 3 options:
- Your baby goes with you.
- You organize someone to babysit (and get used to the feeling of having to leave your baby with someone else, which is not easy).
- You stay at home with your baby and don’t go anywhere.
- Your hobbies
Free time you have and can spend doing your hobbies will significantly reduce, if not disappear for several years once the baby is here.
Does it look like I’m trying to convince you not to want kids? Yes, I am.
Well, I’m not really trying to talk you out of having kids, I’m just trying to rationally explain to you that time before you have kids is precious too.
First thing you need to do if you want to get pregnant fast is to STOP WAITING for the second line on your pregnancy test.
Live your life fully and enjoy it. Because nothing increases your chances of getting pregnant more than being relaxed and happy.
Haven’t you read stories like: “We’ve been trying for a baby for years, and as soon as I accepted that it’s not going to happen and gave up, I got pregnant.” There’s a big truth hidden in these words.
Rule no. 2: Make positive changes to your lifestyle (be healthy, fit and happy)
Do you want to eat healthier food? Now it’s the best time to start. Who knows what the baby will make you eat during pregnancy 🙂
Do you want to exercise more? Do it now. What if you won’t be able to later?
I think it’s clear that pregnancy will be easier for healthy, strong body. You can never go wrong with a bit of preparation few months or even years ahead.
Rule no. 3: Have sex.
Conceiving a baby is not as hard as it might seem. Some information suggest that the sperm can live in a fallopian tube for up to 7 days! However, most sources say it’s 5 days and the survival time for most average sperms is “only” 3-4 days.
What does it mean in terms of trying for a baby?
- You don’t have to have sex every day (you can if you feel up for it, of course). Having sex just because you think you HAVE TO, ‘cos you want to get pregnant is nonsense.
- Relax and stop counting days of your cycle. Your body is designed to have babies. Let your body tell you when it’s the best time. This is why so many unplanned pregnancies happen: Girl wants it and cannot say no. During her most fertile days.
Here are some useful numbers
Simple and not too strict method of getting pregnant is to have sex every 2-3 days, starting as soon as your menstrual flow allows it and going on until the middle of your cycle. Depending on your cycle length, you might only need 3 or 4 dates to get pregnant.
The key recommendation is to stop counting all together.
Have sex whenever you want and focus on your health and wellbeing. If you realize it’s been a year of having unprotected sex and you’re still not pregnant, talk to your doctor. Keep on trying, but it’s also a good idea for both of you to go for medical tests to make sure everything is ok.
Summary
Not wanting baby when you want it so badly is hard. But being stressed out and impatiently waititing for the second line on your pregnancy test could be the reason why you’re not pregnant already. The best thing you can do is to focus your attention and energy in some other direction. There’s so much in life you can enjoy and to be happy about BEFORE having children. Do everything you can to be healthy, fit and happy. Yes, and don’t forget to have sex. At least every 2-3 days in the first half of your cycle. Good luck 🙂
